The art component of this year's festival explores the theme "micro". This does not mean that the works will all be miniatures, but rather that "micro" be loosely interpreted to relate to many different aspects of our contemporary culture. When added to a word, it can often mean small in scale or scope, but it can also have connotations of "self-reliance" or "self-containment" (think micro-economy or microbrewery). With its application to new technologies beginning in the 1950s, micro began to convey the promise of the future (microwave), and has continued to do so (think microprocessor or Microsoft).
The "micro" theme will explore the range of impressions, emotions, and impacts, from optimistic to nostalgic, around technology in our lives.
